Winter holidays at a ski hotel in Obergurgl

From the Hotel & Apartment Alpenland in Obergurgl, you can access the Obergurgl-Hochgurgl ski area directly thanks to the ski-in and ski-out facilities. At altitudes of up to 3,030 metres, 112 kilometres of slopes await you, catering for all ability levels, from wide family runs to steep black runs.

In March and April, skiing in the Ötztal valley offers firm, grippy firn in the mornings and mild temperatures on the hut terraces. Thanks to Obergurgl’s high altitude, the skiing season lasts until the end of April, whilst lower-lying areas are often already free of snow.

Groomed winter walking trails wind their way around Obergurgl through the snow-covered Swiss stone pine forest and along the Gurgler Ache. The routes range from short, easy circular walks to moderately difficult hikes, such as the one to the Hohe Mut saddle with views across the glacial valleys. This is how you can enjoy your winter holiday in the upper Ötztal, even away from the ski slopes.

At the end of the Ötztal valley, in Gurgl, you’ll find twelve kilometres of high-altitude cross-country trails with guaranteed snow cover, groomed for both classic and skating styles. From the flat practice trail to the Hochgurgl high-altitude trail above the tree line, there are suitable conditions for all ability levels. Use of the trails is free of charge. An illuminated section also allows for evening training sessions.

Thanks to its high altitude, Gurgl is one of the first ski resorts in the Alps to kick off the winter season in mid-November. At the start of the season, you can look forward to freshly groomed slopes and a varied programme of events. From the end of November onwards, the Advent market in Obergurgl and traditional customs such as the ‘Anklöpfeln’ characterise the peaceful run-up to Christmas in the Ötztal valley.

The Obergurgl-Hochgurgl ski resort is one of the most popular destinations for freeriding and freestyle in Tyrol. In the high-alpine terrain, you can look forward to deep-snow slopes, well-known runs such as the Kirchenkar, as well as the Family Park in Obergurgl and the Funslope in Hochgurgl.
