Motorcycle holiday in Tyrol at the Timmelsjoch

A motorbike-friendly hotel in the Ötztal valley

Your motorbike tours in the Ötztal start right outside the Hotel & Apartment Alpenland in Obergurgl, at the ramp leading up to the Timmelsjoch. From the hotel, you can set off without a long drive and reach the region’s major mountain passes in no time. On holiday in the Ötztal, you’ll experience Gurgl far away from mass tourism, meaning your motorbike tours can be easily combined with relaxation and wellness.

Alpine passes and winding roads right on the hotel’s doorstep

Just a few minutes’ drive from the hotel, you’ll come across winding serpentine roads and high Alpine passes. Via the Timmelsjoch, you’ll reach the Jaufen Pass and the Penser Joch in South Tyrol’s Passeier Valley – two well-maintained mountain passes offering sweeping views. Heading north, you can combine the Kühtaisattel and the Brenner in a single loop. This allows you to tackle several mountain passes in a single day on a varied circular route.

Tour tips

Places to visit and motorbike tours around Obergurgl

All around Obergurgl, panoramic roads await you for varied motorbike tours. The Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road takes you to Europe’s highest-altitude motorbike museum, whilst the Kaunertal Glacier Road – a panoramic route – takes you up to an altitude of just under 2,750 metres. There are also other winding routes in Tyrol and South Tyrol that can be combined into full-day or half-day tours.

Staying safe on Alpine roads

The weather changes rapidly on the mountain passes, and it gets cooler with every metre of altitude, even in the height of summer. You’ll have a more relaxed journey if you wear warm, weatherproof clothing. Expect wet conditions and loose gravel on tight hairpin bends. Also, bear in mind the opening hours, as the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road – which is subject to a toll – is open daily from 7 am to 8 pm and is closed during the winter; the season runs from mid-May to October.

After the tour

Relax at the Hotel & Apartment Alpenland after your tour

After a day’s drive over the mountain passes, you can unwind at the Hotel & Apartment Alpenland in Obergurgl. Relax your tired muscles in the alpenRelax sauna area, and round off the afternoon by the open fire and at the day bar. In the evening, a meal at the à la carte restaurant Anna Stüberl will give you the energy you need for the next leg of your journey.
