### Hiking tours in the Ötztal valley, amongst Swiss stone pine forests and glacial lakes

Autumn hiking in the Ötztal is a delight thanks to the contrast between the deep blue sky and the vibrantly coloured slopes. A variety of routes lead straight from the Hotel & Apartment Alpenland into the high-alpine landscape. The themed trail through the Obergurgl Swiss stone pine forest, a designated natural monument, offers an easy introduction with views of the Gaisbergferner glacier. Those looking for a moderate challenge can explore the Obergurgl lake district or set off on the Archaeological Circular Trail to learn more about the history of settlement in the upper Ötztal.

### Hiking trails to the Zirben Alm and the Schönwieshütte in Obergurgl

The Zirben Alm Circular Walk makes the mountain landscape easily accessible for both families with pushchairs and visitors with reduced mobility. The 3.5-kilometre circular walk begins at the Ötztal Information Centre in Gurgl and follows the Ramolweg directly to the Zirben Alm. The route then leads through the centre of Obergurgl back to the starting point. Taking around an hour to complete and with an ascent of just 89 metres, the route – which reaches a maximum altitude of 1,963 metres above sea level – is a suitable choice for families with pushchairs. Please note: as the Zirben Alm closes for the season from mid-September, we recommend taking a light snack with you.

This mountain cabin offers a picturesque escape into nature, surrounded by stunning scenery.

### Ascent to the Schönwieshütte

This walk also starts in the centre of Obergurgl. The path heads south through the Obergurgl Swiss stone pine forest, which is around 400 years old, and past the Rotmoos waterfall. An ascending gravel path on the western slope of the Hohe Mut eventually leads walkers to the hut at 2,270 metres. Allow around one hour and 35 minutes for the route, which is just under four kilometres long. Sure-footedness is required on the sections where the path is steep in places. An additional 15-minute climb to the Schönwieskopf offers sweeping views across the Rotmoos Valley. As the Schönwieshütte is no longer open from mid-September onwards, we recommend taking a light snack with you for the walk.

### Mountain bike, road bike and e-bike tours in Obergurgl

The Hotel & Apartment Alpenland is the ideal base for excursions by mountain [bike](https://www.hotelalpenland.at/en/experience/summer/cycling-obergurgl-oetztal/ "Biking in Obergurgl"), road bike or e-bike. The choice ranges from flatter routes along the River Ache to the climb up to the Timmelsjoch. Thanks to its high-alpine location in Tyrol, cyclists benefit from cooler temperatures and clear air, which create excellent conditions for sporting activities.

### The Ötztal Cycle Route between Längenfeld and Sölden

The fourth stage of the Ötztal Cycle Route offers a beginner-friendly option. Over 16.56 kilometres, cyclists pass the Ötztaler Ache river and towns such as Huben and Bruggen, largely away from the main road. Allow around one hour and 25 minutes for the route, which involves a 191-metre climb. The route is mostly on tarmac and partly on gravel. Thanks to the pleasant route, the tour is also well suited to beginners.

### Cycling to the Langtalereckhütte in the upper Ötztal valley

A more challenging mountain bike and e-bike tour to the Langtalereckhütte starts in the centre of Obergurgl. The route covers 14.06 kilometres and 677 metres of elevation gain, leading first to the Schönwieshütte at 2,270 metres, before a short descent is followed by a further climb to around 2,450 metres. This moderately difficult tour requires a good level of fitness and confident cycling skills on wide gravel tracks. The ride time for the round trip is approximately two hours and 15 minutes.

### An early start to the winter season at the Ski Opening in Gurgl

In mid-November, the [Ski Opening](https://www.hotelalpenland.at/en/experience/winter/ski-season-opening-advent/ "Ski Opening in Obergurgl") marks the start of the winter season in Gurgl. Gurgl is one of the first ski resorts without a glacier to kick off the winter season, with guaranteed snow. [Skiing](https://www.hotelalpenland.at/en/experience/winter-obergurgl/obergurgl-hochgurgl-ski-resort/ "Ski holidays in the Obergurgl-Hochgurgl ski resort") often begins earlier here than in many other ski resorts, across its 110 kilometres of slopes. The Hotel & Apartment Alpenland is situated right on the edge of the slopes, offering the ideal setting for the transition from the autumn hiking season to the first days of skiing.
