### Spring ski touring and high-altitude tours

In spring, ski touring around Obergurgl becomes particularly appealing: the deep snow turns into firm firn, and the longer days allow for extended high-altitude tours. This is when challenging destinations such as the Liebener Spitze, the north summit of the Hochwilde or the Eiskögele traverse come into focus.

The stunning alpine scenery invites you to explore the vast snowy terrain and embrace the tranquility of nature.

### Difficulty levels of ski tours in Tyrol

The ski tours around Obergurgl are categorised into three levels of difficulty. This makes it easier for you to find the tour that suits your fitness level and experience. The key factors are the length and duration of the tour, and, above all, the gradient of the ascent.

- **Easy:** short to moderately long tours with ascents of up to 25 degrees.
- **Medium:** moderately long to long tours with ascents of up to 35 degrees.
- **Difficult:** long to very long tours with ascents of 40 degrees or more, some of which include climbing sections up to difficulty grade II (UIAA).

### Safety and rules when out in the open countryside

A ski tour takes you off the marked slopes, so preparation and caution are essential. Before every tour, check the latest avalanche report from the Tyrol Avalanche Warning Service, set off early enough and return before nightfall. Ötztal Tourism recommends being accompanied by a mountain guide. Glacier crossings are only permitted with a rope and as part of a group.

Important rules:

- Before setting off, inform someone of your destination and planned time of return to the valley.
- Keep a distance of 10 metres during the ascent and 30 metres during the descent to protect the snowpack.
- Carry an avalanche transceiver, a shovel and a probe.
- Respect quiet zones for wildlife, avoid hazardous areas and do not leave any rubbish behind.
- Keep any dogs you are taking with you on a lead.

### Guided ski tours with local guides

Anyone wishing to assess the conditions properly and find the most rewarding routes would be well advised to book a guided tour. The local, certified mountain guides and ski touring guides in Obergurgl know the ascents and descents inside out. Beginners can gain their first experiences safely, whilst experienced ski tourers can deepen their knowledge of route selection and snowpack structure. This means you’ll be in good hands, even in challenging terrain.
